Gold Beech Construction

Mahogany Veil

Sometimes solving one problem reveals another. Taking down a large diameter tree was necessary, but it exposed clear views of the neighbor’s unkempt property from the living room, kitchen, and screened porch.

A traditional six-foot privacy fence would have enclosed the property and felt heavy-handed. Instead, we designed a mahogany screen wall with angled slats supported by a custom steel structure. The slats are positioned at precise angles and uniform spacing to block views from three specific vantage points inside the home while remaining visually permeable from all other directions. Air flows through freely. The screen never feels like a barrier.

At nine feet wide and seven feet tall, the larger of two screen sections is substantial but doesn’t dominate. Nestled within the property’s extensive landscaping, the mahogany and steel construction complements the home’s mid-century modern character without mimicking it. What could have been a purely functional fix became something closer to an architectural feature, integrated into both the site and the home’s design language in a way that feels deliberate rather than reactive.
